Altos Limpios

130 kilometers away from Mendoza and just a few steps away from Route 142, we will find Altos Limpios, the famous sand dunes of the department of Lavalle.

Altos Limpios is found within the 20,400-hectare area that constitutes the Telteca Fauna and Flora Reserve, in charge of protecting the animals and plants of this "monte" (natural desertic forest) habitat.

The sand dunes reach up to 15 meters without any vegetation. Here, we will witness beautiful sunsets, with reds gradually turning into the typical ochres and yellows of the desert.

At El Pichón Interpretation Center, forest rangers give information about the best ways to understand and deal with this place. It is possible to go trekking over the dunes or take a tour in trucks and 4X4 vehicles.

It is advisable to visit this area in intermediate seasons since temperatures are otherwise extreme. Summer temperatures can exceed 42°C whereas winter ones can go down to -10°C.
