Loreto Cathedral, which is the center of Catholicism in Mendoza, is in front of Domingo Faustino Sarmiento Square, in Mendoza City.
The temple is very valuable for the stained-glass windows which ornament the vestry and which constitute actual treasures of the province’s religious art. They are antique pieces that were brought from France by the first bishop of Mendoza.
It is one of the oldest religious buildings of Mendoza City. In spite of the great number of architectural repairs that have been performed, it still preserves its original structure. It has a rectangular ground plant, three naves and a roman-baroque interior decoration.
It was provisionally given the category of Cathedral in 1934.
