Cerro de la Gloria is one of the most traditional tours of Mendoza. This well known hill is inside General San Martín Park, and it offers a beautiful panoramic view of the city from its top. One of the most important monuments of the province is found here: a fourteen-ton bronze piece of art made in honor to the Ejercito Libertador de los Andes (San Martín’s Liberator Army). This fantastic monument of the year 1914 is the work of the Uruguayan sculptor Juan Manuel Ferrari.
Through statues and reliefs, the monument narrates the most important moments of the heroic deed of San Martín’s army. At the highest point, a statue representing Liberty can be seen breaking chains as a symbol of what was achieved by this army in America.
It is possible to visit the monument walking or by car. There is parking place at the top.
