One of the most beautiful places to visit in the city of Mendoza is the huge General San Martín Park. With 307 cultivated hectares and 50,000 trees of 750 different species, it is one of the largest green lungs of Argentina.
The creation of this green lung constitutes a symbol of man’s progress in nature. Created in 1897, it required a special irrigation system considering the characteristic arid environment that Mendoza has.
Inside the park, there are important landmarks like Lago del Parque, an ideal lake to practice regattas rowing or have a quiet walk around; Anfiteatro Frank Romero Day, an open air Greek amphitheater where the Fiesta Nacional de la Vendimia (National Vintage Festival) and many other events take place; Ciudad Universitaria, the most important educational complex of the province, and Estadio Provincial Malvinas Argentinas, a huge stadium which opened in 1978 for the Football World Cup. There are also different sports clubs, a golf course and many sculptures, fountains and beautiful gardens.
General San Martín Park is a great place to spend some time in contact with nature, to walk, to practice sports or to share a moment with friends.
