Climate in Mendoza

Mendoza’s climate is conditioned by the Andean Range to the west, by the desert to the north, by plains to the east and by La Payunia to the south.

The climate changes considerably depending on the season of the year and the altitude of the region. On the plain, the climate is semi-dry continental mild, characteristically with low temperatures in winter and high temperatures, accompanied by rain, in summer.

Summers are hot, with temperatures which go from 20ºC to 40ºC and eventual summer storms. These storms may sometimes include hail, which generally produces great damage to crops and cars left in the open.

In autumn, Mendoza gets full of ochre, red and golden colors. These form a perfect combination with agreeable temperatures and the beautiful landscapes of rural areas.

Winters are cold and dry, with temperatures which go from 0ºC to 10ºC and occasional frosts. Thanks to the high mountain snowfall, there are important winter resorts which are ideal for practicing sports such as skiing and snowboarding.

When spring starts, nature is born again after a hard winter and Mendoza gets full of colors. During this season, it commonly blows the Zonda, a hot wind with strong gusts which comes from the north and produces a temperature decrease during the following days.

With the first warm days of the year and the melting of the snow, the rivers of Mendoza become an ideal place where to practice adventure sports such as rafting, kayaking and mountaineering. The Andean Range now allows us to climb high peaks, of which Mount Aconcagua stands out.

In spite of the important thermal variation between one season and the next, Mendoza has a radiant sun and a clear blue sky the greatest part of the year.
