Mendoza - Argentina

Currency:

The official currency of the Argentine Republic is the Argentine Peso, which is expressed by the symbol Arg$. There are banknotes of 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 pesos; and coins of 5, 10, 25 and 50 cents and of 1 peso.

Remember it is always preferable to exchange foreign currency in places specially authorized for that purpose.

Banks are open to the public only from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm, whereas automatic cashiers operate all the day round. .


Language:

- "Ché": The expression denotes friendliness and it is used to attract the listener’s attention without having to call his/her name.

Safety tips:

- Do not walk in dark and lonely places.

- Put your handbag on your lap when sitting in bars, cyber places or cafeterias; you will thus avoid being the victim of a theft.

- To hire a tour or spend the night, choose places which are authorized by the Government of the Province.


Urban Transport:

- The ticket of all bus lines within the city is paid with a magnetic card called REDBUS, which you will be able to acquire in authorized kiosks. If you do not have the card, you can pay with coins but not with banknotes; and if you pay with coins of higher value than that of the ticket, the machine will not provide the change.

- Each bus line has its own authorized stops. Not all buses stop in all bus stops. Check your desired itinerary in the signs displayed at the bus stop.


Passport and visas:

-A passport is required to enter Argentina, except for citizens from bordering countries.

- A visa is not needed. When arriving to the country, you will receive a 90-day tourist card which is renewable.
